Which fictional universe would you like to visit?

Say you had a device that would let you visit any fictional universe you wanted. It would get you there and allow you to return home, kinda like a Slider device except no limits on how long/short a stay you could have and it couldn't get lost or stolen from you.

As part of the transit you are given the credentials, knowledge/skills necessary for basic survival, and enough currency that you aren't forced to panhandle.

I would have three 'verses that I'd like to visit.

1) Ranmaverse - Everyone has over-the-top martial arts ability, magic is a possibility, and above all, it seems 'fun'.

2) Warhammer 40k towards the end of M40. Lotsa battles going on. One could potentially help the humies by bringing in advanced tech knowledge from things like the STCs.

3) Heinlein's Future History - Just seems like a really laidback place to visit.

Re: Which fictional universe would you like to visit?

1) The DCU/Marvel earths. yeah, they're still earth, but it's earth with superheroes! just on the off chance i could actually meet some of my favorite heroes, or depending on when i showed up a chance to warn the bastiches about some of the really bad stuff coming down the line.

2)Star Wars. Rebellion Era mostly, but ill even slide around the during the Old Republic. get my hands on freighter, bop around the galaxy, knowing i could hop back home eventually if it gets too hot, the chance of laying hands on an actual lightsaber, yeah, im down for that.

there are probably other places, but those two/three are the big ones.

1) DC Universe. I'm a JLA/JSA fanboy
2) "Merry Gentry" Universe from the best selling series by Laurell K. Hamilton
3) Galaxy Rangers Universe.
4) Marvel Comics Universe and apply for the role of The Watcher, that way I can look at other Universes.
5) Star Wars: The Old Republic Universe. So many Jedis, and the fight with the Sith is in it's heyday.

Re: Which fictional universe would you like to visit?

  • The Lumiverse. Well, if I could get it to hold a form for more than an hour, anyway. Who was the idiot who decided that butter would make interesting walls?

    >.>

    <.<

    Oh. Never mind.
  • The decks of the Rickenbacker and Von Braun.

    Yes, really.
  • Star Wars, Old Republic era. They let anybody join the Jedi Academy back then!
  • Dark Sun. Maybe I'm a masochist, maybe I'm just convinced that I'm "tough", I don't know, but I'd love to exist in that universe (before they screwed it up by "fixing" it).
  • Steampunkette's MMO-verse. I don't remember who laid out the alternate time line, but it was incredible, compelling and amazing.
  • Paragon City. Anyone can get super powers in this universe.
  • Barbra Hambly's Windrose Chronicles universe. The Silent Tower and The Silicon Mage are still two of my most favorite novels, ever. I've got the hard copy edition of the two together... I've read it so many times that the spine is gone and the book is in eight or nine sections.
  • Pern. Oh, yes, I will have a fire lizard. Oh, yes, I will.
  • Any place where I felt normal and unafraid. Which isn't anywhere I've lived yet.

Re: Which fictional universe would you like to visit?

  • Wildfire Game's CthulhuTech background. I never did like Shadowrun's mixing the tired old Tolkien stuff about dwarves and elves into cyberpunk but, this, this glorious and strangely believable monstrosity of Lovecraft and mecha and cyberpunk manga is brilliant!
  • Larry Niven's Known Space just up to and including Ringworld Engineers. Everything after that, even if he wrote it, I ignore. (Man-Kzin Wars? No thanks.)
  • Vernor Vinge's Zones of Thought As detailed in Fire Upon the Deep and Deepness in the Sky.
  • Any planet created and populated by Hal Clement.
  • David "Zeb" Cook's Planescape, everything up to the point before WotC bought TSR and pretty much shut the idea down.
  • Iain Bank's Culture. For me, like Vinge's Zones of Thought, this is space opera is free of many of the cliches established by the John W Campbell era of science fiction. It ain't at all like Trek. Just read Use of Weapons or Excession and you'll see.
  • China Miéville's Bas-Lag.
  • Ursula K Le Guin's Earthsea.

Re: Which fictional universe would you like to visit?

In all seriousness? That's a toughie...

Probably the future from Isaac Asimov's Foundation. A few years before the final collapse of the Empire. Just to see all of the things that mankind would have in, for the centuries to come, would be considered it's 'Golden Age'... Truly fascinating.

Or perhaps the one from The Gods Themselves. A world where perpetual energy between dimensions is a reality? Think of what we could do with free energy. All of the social and cultural advancements...

I'd think of something more 'cool' where I could play hero, but I'm realistic enough to realize that I'm not a hero. I'm one of those people that just puts things back together and lets the real heroes do their jobs. >.> And I'm coo' with that.

Re: Which fictional universe would you like to visit?

Star Trek, no doubt about it. Preferably during the TNG or beyond years. They literally had the tech to do anything. It was like a world where magic is real.

DCU. The chance to see or maybe even meet some of my favorite heroes of all time. Plus because it's a comic book universe I might even get the chance to become a superhero myself. After all you're never more than one chemical bath, lightning strike, or nuclear blast away from superherodom.

Forgotten Realms. I've just always loved that setting.

Lost Universe: All the meta-knowledge I have about what is actually going on and who to trust (NO ONE!), I would make Ben Linus look like a chump.

Star Trek Universe: If only for the Holodeck

Fight Club Universe: I would tell you why, but the first rule...

Re: Which fictional universe would you like to visit?

Pokémon world. Yeah I know, childish maybe...but cool monsters which you can put in your pocket and fight other monsters with!

Star Wars. At the moment I'm more thinking about The Old Republic. Although, a couple of years before The Phantom Menace would be nice too.

Star Trek: TNG/Voy era. Tech to do anything, holodecks, starships...

1. Ultraman so that I can fight giant monsters.

2. DCU for the chance to obtain one (or more) of the spectrum power rings.

3. Star Trek: the TOS era, where one can be an intergalactic stud of the universe and get away with it.

I'm caught between the DCU (only going with one comic universe, so I have to go with the coolest of them) and Tolkien. I loooooove me some Tolkien. Besides, I would get along swimmingly with hobbits.

Middle-Earth
Barsoom/Pellucidar/Amtor
The Dreamlands
Neverland
Wild Cards Universe

Alas, no Marvel or DC as there's too much risk of being retconned.
