Not to get into a flamewar (as your post was obviously intended to start) but Bleach will have to start using fillers sooner or later as well (though I believe they let the manga progress further in Bleach)

Still love the show though. Especially the "Next episode previews" are hilarious. But the fighting in Bleach is just sad. Seriously sad.

I like Bleach, and if you wish to discuss it further start a new topic, but the current "lost in Shinigami land" story arc, while starting to pick up, was dragging horribly from when they got past the gate up to this point, too much "OMG Ichigo is strong." There's a reason I love Uryu so much, he may be a jerk, but in the fights he's in, he does what he needs to.

I got bored with Bleach around ep 26 so I stopped watching for a while, waited for one of the big 25 ep packs so I could watch a bunch at once and I gotta say it's way better that way. So much more fun to watch them in a row rather than have annoying things like sleep and work and life get in the way! :D

And on that note I'm currently re-watching the whole Five Man Squad arc, and again, it's so much better to not have to wait to see the next ep. :D

I'm not sure if they need to use any fillers...the facts thus far are:
1. Bleach manga is one of the most popular ones in Japan
2. Bleach anime has plenty of material to work from since they're in the middle of the first story arc.
3. Naruto manga and anime currently playing in Japan has suffered from lack of creative juices...just now is starting to pick up again, especially anime.

Completely agree...episodes 1-20 are a bit slow....I guess building up to the major fights...but episodes 30 on are very entertaining. Episodes 52-56 are what I would expect from good anime. I'm so looking forward to the next one when Ichigo and Byakuya finally face off.

The fight between Ichigo and Kenpachi was pretty good too...and Sourichi vs. Soi Fong is a cat fight.

Uh 'ello all not really new just haven't been around lately. After reading this post, I kinda found myself hooked on this Naruto. So far I'm up to the episode where Sasuke goes after Garaa. Any recommendations for someone new to the show? Like which epsodes I should get first and such? Going in order takes forever :p

Going in order is the best way really. Whenever you get to a filler feel free to skip it. You can tell its a filler because it won't advance the stroy and it will suck. Except for the curry of life filler, that one was ok. And the Bikouchou one, that was decent. Other than that, ugh.

Yea, I'm quite thankful Bleach is getting to the best parts while Naruto is floundering around in filler land. I'd honestly rather them just take a few months off then squeeze what they can out of Naruto. All they're going to accomplish is making characters look weak (Neji in Curry of Life arc), water down current powers and jutsus (Rasengen in Tea Country race arc), and waste possible material that could've been used more effectively (Seven Shinobi of the Mist).

If only they'd learn we'd still watch if Naruto wasn't in an episode then we could get some good filler going. The only part of the fillers I liked to date was the beginning of the Bikuchuu arc. It was funny and light-hearted. Really going back to the early days of Naruto. Then they serious-ed it up. Ah well.

But don't get me wrong, I do love Naruto. I have every episode, every movie and OAV, and every English episode on my computer. I just hate to see something I love bastardized so badly.

Man I hate to sound like an [censored] but this Garuto (garbage Naruto) has got to stop already. You KNOW it's bad when the translators for the new episodes tell you flat out at the beginning that the episode WILL suck and there's nothing to see. I'm so fed up with these worthless fillers that do nothing but stain what really is a good series. What they should have done is just wait until next year to air episodes based off the manga rather than make disgusting fillers that piss people off.

Oh and the Curry of Life arc...yuck. The whole-loner-depressed-kid-with-a-sad-past-who-just-happens-to-have-uber-powers-and-was-picked-up-by-a-naughty-ninja has already been done once (Haku and Zabusa) and done well I might add, why try it again in a filler? The anger...must...vent...ugh. Me and my friend are watching the episodes anyway just to laugh at how stupid they are if nothing else. <sigh>

Finally worked my way up through episode 125, and am still loving the series. One of my only gripes, however, is that they sometimes spend way too much time doing 'recaps' of what happened in the past, even if it was just the last episode.

Unfortunately, it lookes like Naruta Chaos is having problems with their downloads.... Hopefully it'll be fixed tonight so I can start working on the others. Hopefully.... :D

The recaps can be annoying, but only really when your watching them in a row after they've aired. I know I sometimes like a little jog of the old memory for important details. :D And if you're watching them again, well you can always skip the recap parts.

Mostly they look the same. Naruto has changed colour scheme to orange/black though. Sakura has got a pair of boots and something that looks like an apron (hard to decide) Shino covers his face and has one of those gangsta hooded jackets. Kiba's dog has grown up.... A BIT. Neji looks like a nobleman (you know, like a girl) the others we have seen looks mostly the same.

I just thought of something funny. This thread is absurdly long and I cannot read so forgive me if someone has posted this already.

So you know how on this show, people always watch two people fighting from the sidelines, not helping at all, just making comments so often like "his chakra control is amazing!" or whatever. I was thinking it would be funny to do this in CoH, like if I was playing my defender, just not heal anyone or do anything at all, instead just stand around and comment on how my teammates are taking an amazing amount of damage. I think that would be funny.

I am not actually going to do it, obviously.

The filler episodes are not that bad, I don't understand why people get so uptight over them. The one with the Rock and Gai imposters was pretty funny. Just download it once a week and watch it. It is still Naruto.

Caught Naruto on Cartoon Network, not as clean as the Subs I was watching but it was a good reminder on how far the series has come.

Or did noone else notice that the first 15 minutes of the show was a recap.

For those watching for the first time they after teh Zabusa ark, they get much better about the "previously on naruto" sections (they do them as flashbacks in the middle of episodes).

The filler episodes are o.k so far. They could have been done much better. But the one with the fake Gui and fake Rock was too funny. Only 17 more weeks to go. In the mean time, I will be watching Bleach and Black Cat.

Fillers and the DBZ feel of the series is why I gave up on it a long time ago. I love anime, but Naruto leaves me flat...

I think part of it is the fact that each episode only has about 5-10 mins of new animation in it. The rest is taken up by flashback/repeats of the last episode(s) and going over the fine points of the story that you've already heard for the past 3 episodes.

I much perfer series like Elfen Lied, FLCL or Full Metal Panic.

Much shorter with no annoying fillers and every episode feels like it's worth watching...

Question to the anime crowd: Every time I read a thread on anime someone spouts on about how poorly dubbed it was. I'm not sure I've ever read a thread without someone saying it.

I used to lump them into the "I've seen a foreign version of this American film so I have to tell you that by blackballing the US version as trite and derivative" crowd.

Is there ANY anime that is dubbed well?

It's funny to me because I watch American movies dubbed into other languages (mainly Spanish) all the time, and none of the bilingual crowd there complains about it. I'm hoping someone can satisfy my cultural curiosity.

This is the great debate, and a lot of the time it comes down to personal opinion.

Recently I realised that I can easily see the bad timing in a dubbed anime because I know what shapes a mouth should be making while with a subbed not only are you distracted by having to read but I can't understand Japanese so I don't know how a mouth should move as the words are said.

Now that's just my latest reason for prefering subbed over dubbed, some other notable reasons:
1) Dubbed voice acting can be really poor and absolutely destroy a good anime. This is less common now, but still happens.
2) Dubs usually get edited for content, so you lose some of the original anime when you watch a dub.
3) Dubs take so much longer to come than a good fan-sub.
4) "Americanizing" the jokes and references. This has got to be the worst part in my mind, if I wanted to watch a show that would give me North American references, I'd watch a sitcom, NOT a show about teenaged ninjas...
5) Did I mention the horrible voice acting? And it's not just bad acting, but it's bad choice of voice. Listen to Naruto's voice in the original anime, then his voice in one of the dubs. Yes he's supposed to be a kid, but did they have to make him sound like a 12-year old girl? :confused:
6) Comercials. Fan-subs don't subject you to those annoying bits of advertisement.
7) Changes in the dialogue.
8) Some dialogue just doesn't sound good in english. Take for instance in Naruto the fact that every attack is named as it's being used. Not so bad when you're only reading it and hearing non-sensical words (to some) being said with it. But in english you get to hear it said every time, and it gets to be quite silly. :D (Yes, it's still silly in the fan-subbed versions, but I can deal with that. :D)

That's all I can think of right now, but pretty much my list for Subs over Dubs. :D

No dub is a good dub :p But that's my personal opinion (well, actually the swedish dubs of Disney movies are pretty good, mostly because they can get big-name actors (that is, Big name for Sweden) to do voices)

Well, if it is a "US version" of the original movie then by definition it is derivative. Might still be good, but it *is* derivative.

Well, at least over here people tends to complain about dubbed movies (especially LA ones because the synching of the lips is *impossible* to get right and is usually pretty distracting) People are a bit more forgiving with animated films though.

I can't even imagine how hard it would be to do a dub of anything! Seriously that would be one thing I don't think I'd ever want to try to do, especially for a really popular anime series. The pressure to get it right would be just too much.

But just because I respect and realise how much work goes into a dub doesn't mean I have to like or watch them. :D
And plus, I'm such a freak about seeing things in there "original" form. :eek: (Ya I know, most anime starts out as manga, which I only read after I've seen the actual episode because I don't want to mess up anything by knowing ahead of time what's coming. :eek:)

I disagree with you on this one. I prefer a 12 year old girl Naruto to the horrible 7 year old girl Naruto of the Japanese version. Though, everyone besides Naruto and the Third have better Japanese voice actors. American Sasuke and Iruka were bad choices in my opinion. Iruka can't act and the Sasuke sounds like they pulled a stereotypical tough guy voice from the dusty, underground archives.

I agree with you, but please note that Takeuchi Junko was not 7 at the time. She is now 33, so she would have been 30 when the series started.

She's been in several series that came to the US but didn't get released with a Japanese soundtrack. (Gomamon in Digimon, Metabee in Metabots, Kaiba Mokuba in Yu-Gi-Oh) The main anime you may heve seen her in are "Hunter X Hunter", voicing Gon Freeces and "Photon", voicing Photon.

That is what they're doing, giving the manga a bigger buffer zone since the anime was practically caught up to the manga after the Naruto/Sasuke fight. And actually, if I remember what the guy from Studio Pierrot said correctly, he actually said Naruto growing up would start with the beginning of next season.. and as anyone who's read the manga'll know.. there's quite a deal of the Yellow Flash (god I hope I got that right) before that.

Yeah, people fail to realize that when an anime catches up to the manga, if the anime producers are unwilling to do fillers, then it's usually the end of the anime series.

I've been playing NGT4 at my friend's place... Unlocked every char except One-Tail Kyuubi Naruto & Curse Seal 2 Sasuke.... My conclusions:

The game makers are Hinata fanboys. Not that I mind, I'm a fanboy as well. But this is just ridicilious. Not only do they have a standard version that is one of the best of the "nonsuper" characters in the game, they have an *improved* version. (Her counter can reduce *Itachi* to 50% health in one step, OUCH!)

Yeah Naruto is back. It has been hard without it and Bleach. I can't wait for Bleach this week. The anime withdrawal I had the past couple weeks has been bad.

I saw episode 166 on Friday I guess you were right. This filler series wasn't as bad as when it started. Only 13 more weeks of filler to go.

The anime caught up to the manga, and since the anime often combines many issues of the manga together, they would've run out of content. The episode dattebayo put out this week is an HDTV presentation of the eppisode where Gai and Lee go on a mission and two other random characters try to infiltrate the village while they're gone. So it's better quality (but not very noticable to me, on a 19" monitor with a pretty big resolution) and it also has extra audio tracks, one of them being a fan dub and the other being a comentary by some of the dattebayo people. Kinda interesting, them sharing they're perspective on the series and all, but nothing new.

I love this show, but i am geting kinda sick o these filler episodes.

Like this week... A one shot story about cooking ninja :( . I watched this, then looked in my Naruto folder and rewatched 139. The differnce is huge. The movement was so clean. The colors were alot better. The dialogue was interesting. I cant wait till the show gets back to at least half that good.

The fillers are a lil funny, and i definatly love seeing the other chars get a chance at the spot light (Specialy Lee and Hinata).
Just wish they could have thier spot light with the same awesome animation, and dialogue that Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura get... (Tho Lee did get a couple shinning moments).

I kinda feel sorry for Ten-Ten. She got her own solo battle agaist Raiga (sp), and the animation was horrable. I wanted to see some super smooth weapon summoing and useage. She got the wood bo out and the show reverted to near "speed racer" style.

When you think about it, a really well done Ten-Ten fight scene would rock with all the weapons she mastered. Maybe kinda like the fight in Crouching Tiger... (you know the one :) ).

Anyone else think that Orochimaru is kind of a lame villain? I don't have any problems with his appearance like most people. I think that a guy that can stretch his neck out to bite your jugular ranks pretty high up there in scariness. My problem is that he seems to have spent an eternity in the villain planning stage. The only truly villainous thing he's done is kill the hokage, and he technically lost that battle. Pretty much everything else he's ever done has been part of a plan that he has yet to actually complete since even his plans for his plans constantly fail.

I wouldn't say he's been in the planning stage. His goal, after all, is to learn every single jutsu in existence and make new ones, without any morals getting in the way. He's like the Dark Beast (for you X-Men fans) of Naruto. It's all about the science. Taking over Konoha is only a subplan.

Also, I don't think he's really failing.. I mean.. he does have the sharingan with Sasuke. Who went to Orochimaru of his own free will and could possibly be easily swayed more to Orochimaru's side and thus more likely to be around when Orochimaru can take a new host next.

He constantly uses the insecurites and fears of others to get them to follow him blindly.

He has found a way to live forever.

He uses snakes in his jitsu to an obsene amount.

He has made it clear that he will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Even killed his teacher.

He cant really even be consitered a bad guy... he is kind of an evil force. All the bad things that happen seem to eminate from him...

This is where his problem is. He is so evil and cunning, he dosn't rush ANYTHING. He can wait and wait and wait for whatever he needs to wait for. He knows he can always find a lacky, and a host body. He can plan plans upon plans. He is like Apokalips but with alot os snakes.

Plus he freakin bites you.. you know how scarey it is to have someone accualy bite you on purpose...


All and all id saay he makes a good main villain, simple cause he can spawn off alot of side villains easily.

That and he completly contrasts the main character, which is good!

That's a different way of looking at it that makes him make a lot more sense. I just figured it would be very discouraging to cripple Konoha's man-power but gotten your arms semi-permanently useless in the process, tried to get a girl to heal your arms but instead she decides to become the leader of the main village standing in your way, and then finally getting that kid you tried to get so long ago but you can't use him because you had to immediately switch bodies and now you have to wait an even longer time during which he's going to be learning your every mannerism and figuring out how to use you instead. I mean, I know if Orochimaru takes Sasuke's body he'll be able to use the sharingan to instantly copy any jutsu he sees, making it even easier for him to learn every one in existence, but we all know that Sasuke has plans of his own.

Problem is, Orochimaru knows Sasuke is gonna try something. There is no way that guy does not realize Sasuke is gonna double cross him when the time comes.

Sasuke is gonna pull whatever stunt he had planed, and Orochimaru is just gonna laugh, and laugh and laugh. I really think the only thing this guy did not plan for was for the Hokage to use the sacrifice technique, which is the only monkey wrench in the workings ive seen so far. Since he can live forever, im pretty sure this guy is planing really far in advance for everything.

Also, he was damn close in geting Tsunade to heal him, but even tho she didn't i think he was prepared for that to. Now he is in a position where he can wait and plan as much as he wants for 3 whole years, which is the best situation for him.

The big setup from last episode? Yeah, fight lasted about 10 seconds. Not that surprising, but I really wanted to see more kyuubi action. The summon battle was alright, but short too. Plus more Anko/Orochimaru stuff. The next one looks like another funny one :eek:

Also picked up Clash of the Ninjas. Not bad for a fairly old game (only has about 8 characters), but it's probably to easy compared to other fighting games. Can't wait for the PS one's.

The Clash of Ninja/Gekitou Ninja taisen games get *a lot* better, the basic mechanics don't change (and it's not a very hard game) but it's a lot of fun as they start getting more characters (they must've got 20+ in the latest game :p) and they start to go add a lot more "special" stuff to the various characters.

I'd advise you against buying #1 and rather waiting until they convert #4. (essentially each game makes the previous obsolete)

(if that makes any sense). So it needed time to catch up. so they added a ridiculous amount of filler eps (about 25 weeks or so) giving the manga time to get ahead.

FMA = best dubbed anime to date, amazing and i love it.
Naruto = Not to bad dubbing. Not great, but nothing to complain about. If they agree'd to air it on Adult swim it would have been way better
