I checked the link to SoD out of curiosity and noticed it's at 3.0 now. I am using 2.7. How do I 'upgrade'? Just recreate with the new SoD installer or do something else? And what changed? I saw the release notes but they were not overly detailed on what changed between 2.7 and 3.0.
I will say I love SoD and big props to Gnarly for creating them!

About a dozen posts back I posted a little about 3.0. The short answer though, is that if you're happy with 2.7, don't worry about 3.0. Unless you have a fly-only character (doesn't know hover) or a hover-only character who wants to move without the falling-out-of-the-sky problem when attacking and moving, then you don't need to upgrade.
If you DO want to upgrade, then you just unzip the new files on top of the old... only a few of them change, the .exe and the .tkn, but overwrite all to be sure. Then when running the program, if you install to the same base path as before, then all the old bind files will be overwritten automatically. If you want to play with different configurations then you can install to different base paths, and manually delete any bind sets you later choose not to use.
Hope that answers your questions,
Gnarly

Great binds guys, using it for my En/EN blaster, saves a ton of research, in a previous life I was a programmer so this stuff fasinates me but I just don't have the time (new baby..I'm an old man :)).
I'm building up a scrapper now and was wondering if there is a jumping equivelant. i.e CJ is alway active unless jump is pressed then SJ kicks in, with the toggle to turn this off.
can't seem to find anything, thanks in advance

Hi there,
just discovered this thread and your download yesterday, thanks for such a great program. was wondering if you could tell me how to get it to work with prestige power surge instead of sprint. i've tried "prestige power surge" and "prestige_power_surge" and neither of them work.

I have that prestige power too and the name you need is "prestige power surge ". Note the space at the end. Guess someone got sloppy when they coded it or something but that's the power's actual name.

It's nice to be loved.
Took me a good bit of effort to figure that out when I was first setting up SoD. Hovering the pointer over the power doesn't give the extra space away. I finally had to go into the game, activate and deactivate the power, then look carefully at the status messages generated. That's the only place the extra space becomes apparent.

I am using your Speed on Demand program to create my bind files. I have run into a big problem! (for me at least)
While following the prompts in the program it asks you for the keys for going forward, backward, left and right. I prefer to use the up, down, left and right buttons respectively for this. The problem I have is that the program writes the keybinds so that left and right are making me "strafe" instead of "turn".
Any way to fix this? I tried editing the reset.txt file but it still does the same thing.

Since I have Fly binded right now, I guess this can be asked here, but does anyone know the command to unbind a power from a key without resetting all keybinds? I want Super Jump binded to my up key, which has Fly already binded on it, but don't want to reset all my keybinds and then enter them in again. :(

I believe you can just do a new /bind for it, or edit your bind scripts and then re-load them. I think a key can only hold one bind at a time, so if you set a new bind to your up key it should use the new command and ignore the old.
So in your case, just a /bind up "Super Jump" from in-game should do it. If you have any "reset" type of scripts, make sure you update the new bind there as well, otherwise you might accidently put Fly back in :)

Perliquin,
Speed on Demand means "turn on sprint etc when moving". You aren't moving when turning, so my binds don't affect those keys at all. When my program asks for "right" and "left" it means strafing in those directions :)
So, to fix it, re-run the program and configure the right and left keys to the keys you want to use for strafing. If you don't strafe, then you can just bind them to some out of the way key combo. But, the right and left keys will still remember the old (now invalid) binds, so re-bind them as follows from the chat window in-game, or add lines to your reset.txt file to bind them the same way:
/bind left "+turnleft"
/bind right "+turnright"
That should fix you up.

GetBackersFreak,
What Filidecht says is correct. Simply bind a new function to a key, and it'll replace the previous bind. If you're using my binds, however, and you have fly bound to the up key, this won't work as the binds for all movement keys are re-bound every time you move, so any bind you set manually is over-written. In this case you'll have to re-run my bind program, configure Fly to a different key, and then bind the up key to superjump, or whatever you like. It will then no longer be overwritten by my binds.
The command to enter from the in-game chat window to set the up arrow key to toggle super jump is:
/bind up "powexec_name super jump"

Thanks Gnarly.
I had already figured it out. I had to reload my saved bind file first and then run the SoD program. When it asked for those four keys I just did forward to "up" and backward to "down". Then for left and right I just used the default "a" and "d" keys. Worked like a charm!
I would also like to thank you for this awesome little program. I LOVE it!

I am using a modified version of the OP's bind, but I am having a problem with autorun/fly. When I click on autorun, it puts me into hover instead of flight. I haven't tried using it for follow yet, so I doin't know if there will be problems with that.
This is what I am using.
powers.txt
numpad4 "powexec_name prestige power rush$$powexec_name hover$$bind_load_file C:\flight1.txt"
flight1.txt
numpad4 "powexec_name prestige power rush$$powexec_name hover$$bind_load_file C:\flight2.txt"
up "+forward$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name fly"
left "+left$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name fly"
right "+right$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name fly"
down "+backward$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name fly"
flight2.txt
numpad4 "powexec_name prestige power rush$$powexec_name hover$$bind_load_file C:\flight1.txt"
up "+forward"
left "+left"
right "+right"
down "+backward"
I have up and down set in options so that I can jump without hover turning on.
Can anyone tell me what I need to add to this or change in order to be able to auto fly without it messing up the bind?

I admit to not having read the previous 500+ posts, so maybe this flaw has been dealt with.
I've just tried the SoD binds, and they look good, but I found one problem: Sprint is turned on when Fly is turned on using SoD. From what I can tell, doing this sucks down more endurance but does not increase Fly's speed.
I determined this by testing: fly back and forth between two points and time how long it takes. Try flying the same stretch with Sprint on and off. From what I can tell, it takes exactly the same time either way. However, with SoD I appear to be using up more endurance on the same trip, since both Fly and Sprint are on.
So, if you confirm this, Gnarly, I hope you'll fix SoD to not turn on Sprint while Flying. Or am I missing something? Anyway, SoD is very very cool, I'll certainly use it for my non-flying characters in the meantime.

Gnarly, the SoD ROCKS! Downloaded it & ran it, and 5min later I'm flying & running on demand quite nicely. Love it.
only comment is if there's a way to suppress the echoing of the binds (the trace spew) in the upper chat window. I'd really like to suppress that, and if I can't, then I'll at least need to change the font color of the 'bind' echos to something less alerting.
thanks again - and good job!

Tot,
In the chat options, turn off your system messages (chat window, options menu). You'll loose ALL your system messages, but I don't recall missing any of them really.
I'll turn this back on if I'm testing new binds though. That's the only thing I can think of where they were of any use....

Was it a short trip that you were flying?
when you first activate fly there is an end hit. By flying back & forth you are probably letting go of the keys between directions thereby constantly switching fly on & off taking a x% endurance hit every time. Try running the same test by flying around a building or accross a suburb (constant flight - no switching fly on & of) & see how that compares. Also try repeatedly taping the forward flight button so that flight cuts in & out a lot - watch how fast your end drops.

I love these binds you just have to have a steady hand to use them without burning excessive amounts of end. I'm still using My own variation of Wassabi Joe's binds but the principle is the same. I like the resets in Wassabi's & I turn the SOD on & off as i go through a mission to conserve end. Fly to where you want to go & stay put. You will burn a lot less end that way. Flit all over the room not ownly will you burn more end but you'll probably annoy the tank that's trying to taunt off you & the defendr that's trying to heal you
Give em a try again only be aware of how much you are repositioning. If you train yourself to use them effectively they're amazing :D

I crashed the first time I used Gnarly's 3.0 version as well, afterwards I would periodically get errors where it could not read a certain bind file. Also I noticed that in the 3.0 version I ended up sprinting when not moving (when moving I'd be in super speed) where as the last version I didn't see this problem.
Unfortunantly I can no longer get the previous version.

This is for troubleshooting comparison only; I don't want to mirror his files without his permission, so the download will only be active through the weekend (August 8, 2004).
I have not had a chance to test out v.3 yet, so I don't know what the differences are. If you find 2.7 works better please leave a reply here to let Gnarly know. Do not email me... I am not a programmer by any means, so I won't be able to fix anything myself :)

I haven't seen them say any such thing and I doubt they will. The existing bind system allows for this sort of functionality while leaving the choice of whether to use it up to the user. While I will grant that they could perhaps make some changes to make this sort of thing easier to do and code, my feeling is that the Devs are happy with things as they are.

Quick question.
I want to use the down arrow to go down instead of the X. I changed the script for it by changing the X after SET to down arrow and it tells me when i push it in game Uknown Command Arrow.
I used Down Arrow since that is what the bind said that key is called. I know im editing properly since I have changed a few other keys to suit my needs.
If i change it to down arrow in game then it makes me go down at hover speed rather than at fly speed.

I'm not sure if I completely understand you, but what I think you mean is that you use the arrow keys for movement (like me). And you bound Down to the Down Arrow & when you move down, you are still in hover mode (not fly).
That is because the Down Arrow (it's actual name is just down) no longer activates SoD, by overwriting the bind you disabled Sod on that key.
I bound Down to Numpad0 - keeping the Down Arrow to Backward.
I don't know if this answers your question correctly, but I hope I helped.

Hm.. I haven't tried doing this myself, mainly because I'm lazy :). Normally I just turn SoD off (lcontrol+M) when in dungeons, and leave Sprint on all the time. The endurance drain is pretty small, and I've slotted it with an End-Reducer anyway. This works more than good enough for me (and if you're not comfortable creating or editing binds yourself, this would be my first recommendation, lol).

[/ QUOTE ]
If you REALLY want to have two ground modes, why not change the air one to be your second ground?
I suppose -- assuming you're only using a ground-based character -- you can use a text editor and edit the SoD files yourself; Replace all references to Fly with Sprint and remove the references to Hover. Then just enter "Fly" mode when in-game and you'll have the same SoD functionality, but in essence two "Ground" modes. (I haven't tested this though, and I don't plan on doing so, so take my advice at your own risk!) :D

Ok....I realized I was using the wasabi bind rather than the SoD bind.
I have the SoD bind setup now and I have a few questions.
I dont use mouselook. I use numpad 8 to go forward numpad 4 for left ..etc..
After setting up the binds, my numpad 4 is strafing left and my numpad 6 is straffing right.
I am gonna rerun the batchfile and instead of telling it to use numpad 4 for left..im gonna put the default
I think my misunderstanding was thinking when it asked me to assign the key that it meant turn rather than straffe.,
Ironically i didnt figure that out till i started typing this lol.
And Yes ill toggled the SoD on and off for the superspeed to be turned off in smaller dungeons.

I've been having a problem with popup menus. When using the right mouse button for mouselook, occasionally something is selected and a popup menu appears. If I move at the same time and SoD is turned on, it goes all batty and I have to reset it. If I don't reset it, I can't stop the character from auto-running.

Ok, so let me start off by giving my compliments to all of you who have worked on this. I just finished going through the entire thread, searching for a potential answer for my potential question. Since I didn't find anything that answered it, here's my question.
I'm primarily a Super Jumper, not a Flyer, so while I figured I could probably modify these to use SJ/CJ I stayed away for a long time. But I finally got around to trying it out last night. I had a number of problems initially, but after working with it, and deleting all the binds and trying over, setting it up as if I had Fly and Hover, and then going through every file and replacing hover with combat jumping and fly with super jump (my text editor can have tons of files open and replace everything in all files, so it went easily and quickly), I got it working virtually perfectly.
The only problem is that I like to have Sprint (or in my case Prestige Power Rush) on when moving as well. In addition to the CJ/SJ powers. Have any of you figured out a way to essentially combine the ground/fly modes into one so that they're off (or in hover/CJ mode) when not moving and on (flying/SJing PLUS sprinting) when moving? I realize this may not be possible, but if it was, it would rule without question and make my life (at least as far as movement in this game is concerned) complete.
Also, while this is comparatively minor, have you considered adding an option to your program that allows for CJ/SJ directly instead of Hover/Fly without having to edit all the files? There seemed to be the option for Superspeed, but not for us Jumpers. We need our lovin' too! ;)
Thanks a bunch, and again my compliments on your hard work.

HELP!
I am using Gnarly's AMAZING Speed on Demand binds. Wow :) They are incredible. Fly was kind of a novelty before, not it is a fun and efficient way of travel.
BUT!
Sometimes when I type in the chat box and hit enter, my character starts running off in a direction and will not stop. I can stop it only by using the SoD reset key (ctrl-r).
This only happens when I chat and though it happens frequently, it does not happen every time. It is as if I am hitting some combination of keys that turns on autorun backwards or sideways.
Any suggestions please? This has gotten my group killed once on a t/f as it autoran me into a group of mobs before I could reset! :) Owwwie.

Trendy, you are typing too fast :) If you type something that ends with a key that controls movement (say W for forward) and you hit ENTER to say whatever it is you're saying while W is still pressed down, and THEN release the W key, SoD things the release of the key is the press. It can't distinguish between the two, press and release. So, when talking, make sure to release all keys before hitting Enter.
Artificer, I looked into options for Superjumpers, but it seems easier to use SoD for sprinting, and have a separate toggle for SJ/CJ. You still need the horizontal speed from sprint, and sometimes you wouldn't want to SJ, like in combat... you'd lose the def bonus from CJ and SJ would be overkill. Also, keep in mind that binds can't activate 2 things at the same time, so the binds can not activate sprint AND SJ for both horizontal and vertical distance. So you modified the files so that you go into SJ when moving? Does that work well for you, in practice?
Ssinjin, Yah, when I got Superspeed, I found that it wasn't very practical with SoD. I left SoD to control sprint, and just made a single-key toggle to turn SS on and off. Much better for End also.
If you still want 2 different setups, try this: run the program twice, configuring SS on one, and Sprint on the other. Configure them using the same movement keys, but different Reset keys. Press the Reset key for the set you want to be using.
Filidecht, thanks for providing a link to 2.7, it's not a problem at all. If anybody wants to modify/distribute my program, or the files they create, feel free. No permission necessary... that's why I distribute the .bas file with it, for easy of modification.

Not amusing at all. Any idea what im doing wrong? It wont even let me run the .exe program!!
If it turns out that I simply can not use SOD I want to use a press/release toggle on my movemnet keys.. where I use normal movement when key is pressed and the hover when key is released. I can do this on my own.. but I see a big problem if I try to use FLY! Is there a way to perhaps have a fly-mode bind and a hover/run-mode that I can switch between.. ( two seperate keys are not only ok.. but probabally desired)
..or.. if I just included the movement keys in my powexec_name fly bind.. would that override the other bind?

He put sod 3.0 up on his site at:
Gnarly's SoD Binds 3.0 (http://www.bhaerau.com/downloads/sod30.zip)
I will keep my webpage in the same place as before, but it now links to the site above for serving the actual 1.2 meg file. Since that is the big file that's causing me to exceed my bandwidth limit, I should not have this problem any more.
The email I received from my website said it would not serve my webpage until the 1st of next month, but I just went there without any problems. If you do have problems though, you can get to the file directly from the link above, at least until the first of the month. Most of what is on the webpage is also in the readme.doc file, so missing the webpage is no great loss. People that have my webpage bookmarked, or who use my Sig without reading this message, may have problems until the first of the month.
Thanks again to Mister B, and Good Flying to you all!

Ok I figured out my deal with the 3.0 binds wasn't actually the 3.0 binds.
The setting to execute the Powexec_unqueue was turned off, and this is why it was turning super speed on while running but then turning sprint on when you release the button. (Kind of like how fly/hover works when in fly mode.)
Although this doesn't explain the crash, which hasn't happened since I loaded the 3.0 binds the first time. I'm guessing isn't the actual bind file thats causing the problem.

So each time you re-run the .exe and set up binds then hit CTRL-M you crash, or each and every time you hit CTRL-M you crash, regardless of if you've run the .exe? And then after you reboot, it works?
I'm still trying to figure this one out

Ok..I'm having a problem using SOD with one of my alts. He's a Tanker that knows Fly, but not Hover. When I am running forward (Sprint is On), and hold down my Takeoff button, he switches to Fly and ascends, but Sprint is staying on.
I knew Fly took some endurance, but leaving Sprint on really sucks it up!! ;)
I can get around it by only taking off from a stand still, but sometimes I forget.
If this has already been covered, I'm sorry.

Which version are you using? 3.0 was created specifically for Fly Only characters.
A simple thing to try first is to reset (CTRL-R), or deactivate and reactivate the binds (CTRL-M twice)... but you probably already tried that.
Ok, if that doesn't work... what are your other options? Are you using the default for Primary and Secondary Run powers (ie. Sprint as secondary, and nothing for primary)? Are you using Unqueue (default is to use it), or did you disable it because you use a drawn weapon? Maybe just post or send me the text from your Re.txt file. That'll tell me all I need to know.
Thanks, Gnarly

Oh..I'm using 3.0, default Pri/Sec run powers, and default Unqueue.

I'm am sad :(
I was previously using versio 2.2 of SoD successfully. Then I took a hiatus from CoH for a bit. Now I can't get my 2.2 or new 3.0 version binds to work.
I'm using the default directory (c:\CoH).
I'm using the default setting for unque?
I have primary run set to none and secondary set to SPRINT.
I have hover and fly set to yes.
When I get in-game I use the options to reset my binds, then I use the bind_load_file command.
I hit ctrl-m. Sometimes this crashes me, sometimes not (when 1st loading the binds...when I had 2.2 before it always crashed me). If I've crashed, I restart CoH.
I never get the tell saying 'Changing to SoD RUN Mod' when I hit ctrl-M. I do get the message saying 'Normal Movement mode' if I hit it to toggle out of SoD mode.
When I try to engage 'Fly' mode, I get put into hover mode, but thats it. The binds won't engage to kick me into flight if I use a movement key. I'm stuck in hover.
When I hit my 'Run/ground mode' key, i drop out of hover and into sprint. I stay in sprint mode regardless of if I'm actually moving (using a direction key).
Any ideas here? I got addicted to SoD and now its really difficult to live with out it. I need my fix bad.

Silverclaw, Mordaga... I don't know what to tell you :/ It sounds by your setup that it should work.
Have either of you changed the keys that SoD uses? You can get yourself screwed up if you have them on WASD for example, and then change them to the arrow keys or something because the second time you run the program, it doesn't remember where the 'old' keys are so doesn't clear the binds there. If you then accidentally hit one of those old keys, it'll put you in an incorrect mode and try to load a file that no longer does the right thing. But that would be reset by you logging off and back on, so it's probably not your problem, but I don't have many other ideas. Try resetting, and posting or sending me your R.txt Re.txt files from your R subdirectory.
Anybody else experiencing problems, who didn't have any previously? I haven't played the game in a while, so I'm a bit out of touch, but after Mordaga's post, I'm wondering if they changed how the game uses binds.

I did some testing with 3.0 this morning before work, going to give a quick rundown of what I tried. Each attempt I reset the keybinds in game, so as to be starting with a fresh set. I tested on my blaster, which has Hover, Fly, and Sprint.
-
Test 1: A single key selected (the keypad "add" key) to toggle between Fly and Ground modes. All other options default.
Results: Pressing the toggle key would toggle between Hover and Sprint only; it would not activate Fly. Moving around (when in fly mode) kept me in Hover, and would not switch to fly. Pressing and holding the key from the ground did launch me into the air, but using Hover only. Pressing again to descend would lower me to the ground as normal.
-
Test 2: Seperate keys for Flight and Run modes, this time using G for ground and again ADD for Flight.
Results: Crashed as soon as I started running forward. I saw Sprint activate as normal, but then the game crashed. Didn't even get to test Fly/Hover :)
-
Test 3: No Unque, same keybinds.
Results: Crashed immediately upon activating (LCtrl+M). No chance to test anything.
-
Test 4: Two different keys used this time, with Unque enabled. This time I used the keys G for Ground and F for Flight.
Results: NO ERRORS! The binds worked perfectly, no crashes, Fly/Hover toggled properly, de-activated properly when switching to ground. Sprint activated and de-activated properly when moving / idle.
-
Test 5 (just in case) :) ALL DEFAULTS, I hit Enter on everything to use the programs default options: E for ground, F for flight, unque enabled.
Results: Again, NO ERRORS. Everything worked 100% properly, just as before.
--
Conclusion: It seems there was a problem when I used the keypad plus key, as opposed to a regular letter key. I haven't tried other keys yet (late for work at the moment), but I can do some further testing when I get home tonight if needed. I will have to look at binds themselves when I get home, to see how it handles the "add" key as opposed to a single-letter key.
For those having problems, I strongly suggest re-running the SoD program and putting EVERYTHING to defaults, just to be safe. I had NO errors at all when everything uses the default options... just keep hitting Enter until the program is done :).
I hope this helps. I'll do some more testing when I get home.

Good Tests, Filidecht. I don't know if we can say it is the ADD key that is causing crashes, though, since you use it in your first test. Your first test doesn't work correctly, but it doesn't crash. The first test, actually, sounds like you answered "No" when it asked you if you could fly. Could you have entered a space in front of "Y" when answering, or did you just hit enter? My code takes a leftmost letter, and if it's Y or y, it says you know fly.
But it could be caused by the keys chosen. I didn't think of that before, but I use pretty normal keys (almost all lelters). It is something different in the game that processes the same binds different ways. I don't know if it's key choice, or OS, or hardware, or lag, or random bad luck. My program just makes binds, so I don't know how to go about troubleshooing if one person has no proglem and another does :/
If somebody post those two files (R.txt and Re.txt) Then we could see at least confirm that the problem is the show or the movie.

I need a variant for characters who have hover but not fly. They need a speed (combat) mode that switches between sprint-no-hover when moving and hover-no-sprint when standing. Normal (non-combat) movement would not do any trick switching and let me control things with the power buttons.
I apologize if this ihaas already been answered. I did some searching and couldn't find it.
Any ideas?

Ok. After I posted last night, I did some further testing. I ran SoD 3.0 and used all defaults. I also uninstalled and reinstalled CoH (took forever because the update server would only give me 75K/s). Still no luck with the binds :(

Hmm, I might have hit the space bar on accident when answering about Fly. Didn't think about that. I re-tested to be sure after seeing your post, see below. I forgot to mention in the first test, when I saw Fly didn't toggle automatically, I manually turned Fly on. Then I pressed the space bar to raise up into the air... and crashed. I should have mentioned it in the first post, but forgot.
Here's some more fun, though. Did some more testing when I got home.

Again, I'm thinking it has something to do with the "ADD" key. I'm looking at the txt files, and I can't see any differences other than the key used to toggle. When using single-key F it works fine, when using the dual-key defaults E and F it works fine, when using single-key ADD it crashes on initilization.
And now I see Mordaga's post, and I don't see any differences between my working- and his non-working files.
Mordaga, have you tried logging back in AFTER the crash, and seeing if they work for you then? Not sure what else to say, I don't see any differences myself. But then again, I'm a relative newbie at coding :)
If it helps at all: I'm using Windows 2000, with all the latest Critical Updates and service packs. Direct X 9.0b. ASUS P4 2.8 GHz (I forget which chipset). MSI GeForce FX 5950 with the latest drivers from MSI. 512 MB SDRAM (Kingston). Sound Blaster Platinum 5.1, using old drivers for this because the newest ones cause errors in some other games.
Any other ideas?

I wonder if its the quantity of files thats the problem. Maybe they aren't all loading for me. Gnarly, could you suggest a good spot to insert some feedback tells so I can figure out if all the files are getting loaded?
Would more RAM make a difference? I have 512mb.
I wish Wasabi Joe's binds didn't use mouselook or I could get by with those ones more easily. :)
Enough rambling.

Ok Guys, I looked at those files too, and they looked fine. Except for different keys, identical to what I have used. I've never crashed. Mordaga crashes without using ADD, Filidecht only when he uses ADD. Yes, it could be memory, or the number of files, or the speed of connection. Or any of a lot of things... I just don't know how to go about narrowing it down, and unless there is something about the binds I could change to prevent it, then I couldn't fix it even if I found the cause.
I think for now, if you can't get mine working, you should try a different version. Ahzurdan's worked well, and Falstaff created a batch file so they could be modified. They did not use mouselook either, I don't think.
Ahzurdan's Binds (Falstaff's Batch File) (http://www.falstaffenterprises.com/CoH/)
I haven't used the batch file, but Ahzurdan's binds are much more clever than mine. They use a LOT fewer files. I don't think they have a Blastoff Function, so if that's essential, stay with Wasabi Joe's, and maybe edit them manually to get the keys you want.
Me and Wasabi Joe were using a similar approach, and kept adding files for different key combinations, because the missing combos were 'breaking' the binds - Sprint would be on when stopped, and turn off when running. Ahzurdan came up with a clever Axis approach, and had files just for the X, Y, and Z axis's and their combinations. But I couldn't get some things to work with Ahzurdan's, and adding more key combinations was getting exponentially worse. So to get around this problem, and to allow everybody to use whatever keys they wanted, I created the basic program to create files for EVERY key combo. This was swatting a gnat with a sledgehammer, but it seems to work (for most people) and allows more functionality than previous versions. For example, you can go smoothly into autorun when already running forward manually... I couldn't get this to work with Ahzurdan's setup. But the improvements are relatively minor.
So anyway, there's a bit of history of this post :) If mine don't work for you, or you just don't want to use a sledgehammer, try out the binds above, or Wasabi Joe's.

It looks like Falstaff also has a batch file to tweak Wasabi Joe's binds on the site you posted Gnarly. I may give that a try next.
I AM willing to put in some debug code if you have any interest in helping me figure out if all your bind files are being loaded. A few strategically placed self-tells in some of the files to report loading progress or something. I'm not sure of the load order so if you can suggest what files might be useful to edit, that would be a big help.
If you don't have the time/energy for tech support tho, I totally understand and I can make-do with the other binds.

I have a question about Gnarly's with Super Speed. Incidentally, on my flying character, Gnarly's 3.0 is AMAZING.
But I have a character that is getting close to using SS only without fly. I should simply put the fly key in an out of the way place (the readme suggests LCTRL-L) and then what? Is there anything else that needs to be done? What does the run mode key do on a super speed character? Or should it be placed out of the way too?
Finally, I have shelved my flyer for now. But if I ever get it out again would I need to change the configuration again? For example, at this point when the program asked if I use hover or fly I answered no to both. Will that blow up my flyer binds if I use the character sometime in the future?
Any configuration advice for a super speed only character would be appreciated! Thank you.

In my first several iterations of SoD, I had a troubleshooting key... each time a program was loaded, this key would be bound to a self-tell which would tell you the name of the file. You can't really use a self tell on the movement key itself, because you'll get a tell "changing to whatever-file", and THEN it'll try to change... but what if it doesn't succeed in changing? Hence the need to press a different key.
This feature was helpful, but I actually never had a problem with a a file not being loaded. I had other problems that got me in the wrong mode and whatnot, but never a loading problem, even when I pressed lots of keys simultaneously as fast as I could. It might have lost track in the middle (I couldn't press my troubleshooting key in between each because I was just pounding on the keys), but it was sorted out in the end. I eventually took that keybind out to make the bind files each a line shorter.
But you testing is a good idea, because while *I* never had problems getting files to load, I don't crash either. Maybe it's not loading files for you? Maybe it's a drivespeed issue, or pagefile, or file handles problem? So, rather than make you manually add a line to each file, I changed the basic file, and created a token file. Don't worry about the details, but if you want to try it, then download this file:
SoD Troubleshooter (http://www.jim.cavanaugh.net/sod30ts.zip)
It is just a single file zipped. In your SoD program directory, change the name of your old SpeedonDemand30.tkn (the only .tkn file) so you can change back later, and unzip the above file in it's place. Re-run SoD, and this version will change it so that the L key (I hope this is out of the way for you) will tell you what file is in use.
This won't do you any good unless you know basically how the files work.
Subdirectories:
R - Run Mode
BO - Blast off Mode... you should be in this while still holding down your Fly key
F - Fly mode
SD - Set DOwn - When holding down your Run Key to land
AR - AutoRun Mode
AF - AutoFly Mode
FF - Follow Fly Mode
FR - Follow Run Mode
The individual files are named depending on what keys you have held down.. BUT, they use my key setups, which use EDSF for forward back left right, Space for up (underscore in the file name), and B for down. So, R.txt is the file that should be loaded if you're in run mode, but not moving. If you start to move forward, and hold the key, you should be using Re.txt until you release it, at which time you should change back to R.txt. If you're holding down all movement keys (hard to do :) ) then the file R_bedsf.txt. Simple, huh? ;) NOTE: You do NOT have to use my key setups... they're just the filenames, which are independent of the binds inside the files. I just needed a short way to show what keys each file was for, and Rforwardrightdown.txt is too long ;)
So, run fly skip and jump around, and keep pressing the L key, and see if all the files load properly. :) Let us know how it works for you!

Ok, I wrote SoD before I had a superspeeder. Now that I do, it works fine with superspeed (more on that later) but you probably won't want to use SS with SoD. It's just too fast for a lot of things. What I did was leave SoD controlling Sprint only, and I created a toggle key independent of SoD for SS:
/bind c "powexec_name Super Speed"
I just hit that key to manually turn SS on and off. If SS is off, you sprint on demand, if SS is on, you still sprint on demand, but with the greatly increased speed of SS stacked on top of it.
But, if you do want try SS with SoD, then set it up as follows:
Primary Run Power= Super Speed
Secondary Run Power = Sprint (Default, you can just hit Enter)
Unqueue Option = On (Yes, default)
This sets it up so that any character with Superspeed will use it, but those without it will use Sprint instead. If you have superspeed, sprint will NOT be used, because binds can not activate 2 different powers at the same time. Sprint's speed is negligible with SS, however, so you won't even notice. With Unqueue off, it won't work this way. If you need unqueue off, create 2 different versions of SoD in 2 different directories (see next paragraph). Configure one with SS as the Secondary power and nothing for primary, and one with Sprint as Secondary and nothing for Primary. Use the appropriate one for each character.
Using more than one SoD configuration: you can, if you really want, have a different set of binds for each character you use, and just use a different basepath directory. For example, c:\coh\superjoe, c:\coh\superbob, c:\coh\supersteve. This is limited only by diskspace, but I'd suggest something more like c:\coh\fly c:\coh\ss and just run the appropriate manual command for each character in game (the bind_load_file command) to point to the appropriate set of files. Keep the paths shortish, because these are on all your binds, and there is a limit to the length of binds of 256 characters.
For your flyer... you can either overwrite his binds with those of your SSer, in which case if you bring him back, you'll need to rerun SoD. Or you can create a different config, as above, for your SSer without changing your Flyer's binds.
Hope that answers all your questions.

I installed the Troubleshooting token and rebuilt my binds using all default parameters.
I loaded up the new binds, hit crtl-m, hit e, hit f...crash.
Reboot game and start messing around with keys and hitting the L to trigger the feedback.
As far as I can tell, all the files are loaded. I get the expected feedback from each key and mode I try. The actual SoD functionality still isn't happening, but the L key works beautifully ;)
Incidentally, Wasabi Joe's binds make me crash also, but they work ok after I reboot the game.
Also, I'm not getting the feedback I expect from toggling CRTL-M. I get the 'Entering Normal Movement Mode' message, but not the 'SoD Movement Mode' message.
At any rate, it seems like the files are getting loaded.

Mordaga: Where do you have the SoD files located?
Ex_Libris
08-27-2004, 08:25 AM
Ok, Mordaga, not surprising results, except I didn't know that Wasabi's binds made people crash also.... thought it was just mine. So, we're still at the point where all we know is that the same binds act differently on different computers. At least now we know it's not file-loading related: the files load fine for me, but I don't crash and SoD works, but while the files also load fine for you (up until it crashes), SoD doesn't work, and you crash.
As for the tells and SoD functionality not working for you, Mordaga, it's just another mystery to add to the list. It's loading the commands from the files correctly, but sometimes it's just NOT executing them, as evidenced by not doing the tells and not doing the sprints/flys whatever.
So thanks for doing the tests, Mordaga. It's a bit more information. We'll probably never figure out what's happening unless the Devs come and tell us, but maybe we'll start noticing a pattern.

Hey Blue, good color choice ;)
To answer your question, try this. Type:
/bind {key} "follow$$powexec_name fly$$powexed_name fly"
on the chat line. You DO need to keep the quotes, and replace '{key}' with the key you want to do the comand. This will turn on fly if off, and will leave it on if it is already on (that's why the double command).
Hope that helps!

Shyft9,
To fix your current binds go through each of the bind files you use and replacing ALL references to "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes" to instead read "C:\Progra~1\Cityof~1". That should cause your files to work properly.
As an alternative, you can store all your binds in a simple folder without any spaces, used just for binds. Many people here use "C:\CoH"; it's short, simple, easy to remember, and no spaces so no args errors :)
This error is caused when there are spaces in the path to your files; unfortunately the game cannot recognize long file or folder names. "Program Files", and "City of Heroes" have spaces in them, so the game sees each space as seperating arguments instead of as one long path (Yes, even if they are in quotes, it can cause errors).
The way around this is to use the older "DOS" style of folder references. Before Windows 95, Microsoft operating systems could only recognize 8 characters for each folder and file name. When Windows 95 came around allowing long file names, some older programs still did not recognize the extra letters, so to compensate they had to be referred to by the first six letters of the folder name followed by a ~1. For example, your exact path should be:
C:\Progra~1\Cityof~1\powers.txt
Most programs now can read long file names. However, CoH's bind commands have to use spaces to seperate multiple parameters (or arguments), so using filenames and folders with spaces causes the program to see it as seperate arguments. "C:\Program" it thinks is one argument; "files\city" is the second, "of" the third, and "heroes\powers.txt" the fourth: hence the error message, "bind takes 1 args, you gave four." It's counting the word-groups seperated by spaces.

I installed SoD, the Sprint seemed to work great, but the Hover/Fly button wouldn't work. I set run & fly to both 'E', but that key doesn't seem to do anything. Since azhurdan's bindings worked beautifully, I didn't think anything about it and reset my bindings to the default through the options menu. Then I loaded up azhurdan's binds, and now I crash almost immediately after I start flying, 2 minutes into the game, every single time.
BTW, as soon as I loaded the "reset.txt" file from SoD for the first time, CoH crashed and I had to reboot.
PLEASE HELP!!
EDIT: actually, when azhurdan's binds are loaded, the game crashes a couple seconds after moving at all, flying or not.
Hi all, Just got fly with my first toon and thought I'd give the binds a try. Ahzurdan's work well for me with one exception... Everything I do toggles sprint on if I'm on the ground. It never shuts off unless i do it manually. Even if I switch to fly.
I tried Gnarly's and had a most unpleasant side experience: Spritn worked well, so I took flight, after a few swoops, The keys got maeesed up to the point that not pressing a key moved me backwards, pressing forward would hold me in place. Right, left, up, and down seemed to work okay still. Worse yet, even after I reset the games default binds, the movement was still that way. It wasn't until I logged out and back in that it reset. Any ideas?
Ex_Libris
08-31-2004, 04:14 AM
There is a reset key that should fix it if the binds get messed up. CTRL-R by default, or hit CTRL-M to Exit SoD and then again to restart. Both of those keys are configurable though.
Why did it get messed up? I'm not sure in your particular case, but 2 known causes are zoning when moving (like a tunnel) or hitting enter in the chat window when you're still holding down a key. There could be other reasons, but the basic cause is that either the key press or release is not geting to SoD. So, it thinks you have the key pressed when you don't, and vice versa.
As for the crashes, it happens to some people, and we haven't been able to figure out why. It's something about how the game executes (or fails to execute) bind commands. The commands are correct, but fairly complex, and they seem to choke some machines.
Lastly, I'm here to say goodbye. I'm quitting the game, and don't want to continue paying just so I can come here and answer questions. In fact, I stopped playing a month ago, but kept my account to make sure my urge to play didn't come back. So, I hope you all enjoy the binds. If they don't work for you, you might find some answers in this post, or in the readme.doc, as people keep running into the same problems, but the worst of them are unsolveable (at least by us players). So thanks for the support along the way, and to my co-binders who made this a fun experience :)

What's the current status of these Hover/Fly Binds?
Reading through the nearly 60 pages of posts here (as an aside this is a terrific exchange, idea-sharing and building at its best), I see that Gnarly is now leaving us.
I've used Wasabi Joe's excellent Hover/Fly Bind, but his last post was early this summer. His usually works beautifully -- the way Flying was meant to be -- but I do have occasional lock-up/sequence problems with it.
Gnarly's posts are more recent. Is his Bind a continued improvement, or just different?
What do the Bind gurus here now recommend using?

As for which binds to use, different people seem to have different results; best bet I say is to try both and see which ones you like, which works best for you. Personally, I prefer SoD, I've never had any problems with it once it got going. I find it to be very easy to set up and customize, and works perfectly for my hover/fly characters. Some say that older versions of SoD work better for them, and stick with the 2.7 version instead of the current 3.0. Others say that Wasabi's binds work better for them. I've used his before I started using SoD, and afterwards for testing and comparison, and they also always work excellent; I've never had any problems with them. Wasabi was also one of the people who contributed code, that Gnarly put to use in his program. They are very similar in function, so in the end it's really just what works best for you.
Milk_weasel, have you moved the files after you installed them, or renamed your folder, or something? It sounds like for whatever reason it can't find the files, or the path defined in them is incorrect. If you have made any changes to the folder names or moved files, or whatever, try putting things back to the way they were and see if that helps. If you haven't made any changes since first setting up SoD, try reinstalling it and see what happens. If nothing was moved/renamed/whatever, and reinstalling doesn't help, I'm not sure what to tell you :\ Maybe try Wasabi_Joe's (http://www.the-kgb.org/~wasabi/) :)

I've used the Gnarley Speed on Demand bind and it works pretty well, but I wasn't paying attention when I set it up and it wrote the binds to the C Drive which on my computer is the Zip drive. It worked just like it was supposed to, but it was a little annoying because sometimes I would have a slight lag as it read from the Zip drive. I had some time to kill today so I deleted it and reinstalled it in the hard drive "E" It would not work when ever I tried to start up the bind. I put a local tell bind in the reset txt so I know that it read the bind in the E drive, but whenever I tried to activate it it said unable to read in keybinds file. I moved it all to the Zip drive, loaded up the reset from that file and it worked fine again. I noticed that it created a subfolder E when I set it up in the E drive but not when I set it up on the C drive. Again, though I made sure I went to where the reset.txt file was and loaded it and made sure because I had a local bind set to test. Any ideas?

Mister_B: yeah it's not just during follow, it's when i'm autorunning that a jump will stop my movement. is the fact that i rebound autorun to numpad/ the cause behind this? I'm wondering if it will only work if i leave autorun on the default, (r) even though i use that button for reply...

Blue Streak,
I'm going to see if I get the same. The problem is that follow is set to cancel on jump in SoD, which is very annoying if you have Super Jump or similar. I don't know about auto-run. Being a flyer myself, I've never noticed dropping out of auto-run when rising (space), so I don't know...
I tried to look at the SoD code to fix two bugs I've noticed, but haven't had any luck in that regard. The first is canceling follow on jump, the second is that the binds break when SoD is not on and you use a specific button.
Stopping follow isn't that big a deal I think, just stop being Sidekicked ;)

I had a problem with one of these binds actually crashing CoH. I would load it; it would crash CoH. I would reload, and it would work.
I should probably download a current version and try again.

Unfortunately, this is a problem that has been discussed many times, and no solution has been found. Version 3.0 of the SoD binds causes some people to crash, and others have no problems with it at all.
It crashes with mine the first time I run it, but after that I can enable and disable it as many times as I want without any problems. As long as it works after that first time, I don't worry too much about it :)

I don't see the crash as a problem, it happens only once.

Since it only happens once and then you never have to "deal" with it except for the very first time you use it. But if you're that concerned you can try Wasabi_Joe's binds (http://www.the-kgb.org/~wasabi/index.html). A lot of people prefer his binds better, even if they don't have problems SoD. They also work very well, and have never crashed the program when I've used them.

Just got fly, started playing with binds and researching here.
Found Wasabi Joes (http://www.the-kgb.org/~wasabi/index.html) for the latest version.
It works very, very well. Almost unbreakable so far.
I changed the F to toggle to H, and removed the auto-mouselook stuff, as it was driving me nutty.
Onlt thing I found, on the ctrl-R to reset, the command for F should be "forward", not "++follow", which gives an error when you try to follow anything afterwards.
In fact, the only thing missing I think, is if you do go on follow mode, sprint/fly is not auto-activated.

I installed WasabiJoe's package and it works great.
My only problem is that I tend to play with the right mouse button down almost all the time. Every time I push or release a movement key, it "Un-Mouse-Looks" the cursor, which as the previous poster said, drives me batty.
I don't really know where to begin fiddling with it as he did.

Sorry if this has come up before but I have only read about half these posts. I am using a simple toggle bind for hover/fly now (one key uses a power and then loads another file to switch) but ever since update 2 I am getting chat messages whenever I load a new file. Is there some way I can get rid of these or move them to the other window? I have tried editing my tabs but I can’t find the one that controls these messages. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried the speed on demand binds and noticed a peculiar problem. Any time I stopped moving after having selected a target (and done nothing else) within the last ten seconds, I fell to the ground. Then I tried a simpler bind:
BUTTON4 "powexec_name hover$$powexec_name fly$$++autorun$$++mouselook"
It had the same problem. When I hit the button during flight after having selected a target of any sort within the last ten seconds, I fell. Has anyone else noticed this?

Hello.
As I don't know if Wazabi Joe is still around, I'll post here.
I'm actually adapting the binds to my config (I use the arrows keys...) and I saw that, in v2.2, some files don't have the same lines than in the 2_index main file (for exemple : fd.txt, fs.txt, fbarx.txt...). So, which one is the right one to adapt and keep ?
Thanks for you answer

I've run into an interesting bug with the Gnarly binds - when I run around with Super Speed everything is fine, but when I stop Sprint turns on. I've tried both the 2.7 and 3.0 versions of the binds, and it keeps happening consistently. Sadly, I don't have enough magic to know how to remove Sprint from the binds - now that I have SS it's really not needed, and I really enjoy the on-demand feature.

When you installed the binds, you confused move Right(which by default is the D key) with turntright (which by default is the E key) - You will need to reinstall SoD Binds (leave move left & move right as their defaults) & when you start the game type /bind e "turnright" & /bind q "turnleft" - that should straighten you out.

There are many problems with this "original Fly/Hover Bind" Particularly if you hit 2 keys at the same time - I would suggest using Gnarly's Speed on Demand binds - this has worked for me without any major problems. Here is the link http://www.jim.cavanaugh.net/sod.htm - you may want to look back through this thread (I know it goes on forever) to see some of the problems/solutions for this set of binds.

What i was thinking was if it was possible to have it so combat jumping was on all the time, but when you press the space bar, it would switch to superjump and you would get the distance. once you let go of the space bar it would switch to combat jumping...
[/ QUOTE ]
That's kind of what I was looking for too. I wanted to be able to travel with SJ but automatically switch back to CJ as soon as I stopped (for the defense bonus). I'd been using Gnarly's fly binds with my flyers for some time, and I was thinking that it would be great if could toggle CJ/SJ the same way it toggles hover/fly when in fly mode.
So I decided to change the binds myself. First I used Gnarly's program to create a new version of my fly binds, putting them in a folder called "jumper". Then I edited all the files to change the power names.
So how do you edit hundreds of text files without spending hours on it, and going crazy? I used a freeware program called TextMorph - available at http://www.laughandlift.com/programs/ . (Though I'm sure there's other programs that can do mass file editing.) I just selected all of the files in my "jumper" folder, and all of its subfolders, and told it to do 2 actions on them. I told it to change all occurrances of "HOVER" to "COMBAT JUMPING", and change all occurrances of "FLY" to "SUPER JUMP".
It took a few minutes for it to proccess all of the files, but when it was done I had the binds I wanted, and they worked just the way I wanted them to.
I loaded the binds and hit "ctrl-m" to switch to SoD mode, and the sprint toggle works just like it does with my flyers. That's the mode I use when I'm running around in a mission, and I usually just manually toggle combat jumping on. But then when I want to travel a good distance I just hit "f" to toggle into superjump mode. (I'm used to using "f" as my toggle for fly mode, so I decided to keep it the same for jumping.) When I'm in this mode, pressing any direction key automatically turns on super jump. As soon as I release the direction key, it automatically switches me back to combat jumping.
This has been working great for me.

Hmm. Interesting. You should call it the JoD binds: Jump on Demand ;)
I would think, though, that you could accomplish the same thing just by making a single bind on the space bar (or whatever key you use for jumping). I don't have my binding hat on at the moment, but it it would work on the same principle as the SoD binds: When Space is depressed, SJ kicks on; When it is released, CJ is on.

This should help us out a lot. The new Update 3 includes a couple new /commands. Namely: "powexec_toggleon" and "powexec_toggleoff"
Should be able to use our hover/fly binds with this and not ahve to sheath weapons or unqueue attacks I'd think.

I love this bind. I modified it just a tad.
I'm a Speeder with no flight abilities anymore. (I respec'ed). I'm a Superspeeder with Jumping.
When I'm moving, I'm at Superspeed and when I'm at rest I'm at Combat Jumping.
This allows me to have Combat Jumping and therefore the defensive bonus available to me in combat.
My ONLY issue has to do with my reflexes. I'm finding it very difficult to navigate the bridges in Circle of Thorns Missions and sometimes I miss doors because I'm too fast.
Ok... I can hit the M (or in my case) the N key to return to normal speed. However then I'm moving at what feels to be a snails pace. Is there a way to basically have two sets of Speed on Demand and have them tied to my mouse buttons?
I had some success with binding the keys but it still doesn't work properly. This is what I want to do.
I want to use the SUPERSPEED bind when I'm in the wide open spaces or on the street. When I'm at rest I'm in Combat Jumping Mode. I want this to be activated with a mouse key.
button 4
I want to use the SPRINT bind when I'm in the narrow hallways or on the rope bridges of Orabanga?. When I'm at rest I'm in Combat Jumping Mode. I want this to be activated with a mouse key.
button 5
Is such a thing possible or is there a better more obvious solution I'm missing?
I bound the mouse keys earlier to Superspeed and combat jumping but found I missed the run around the room almost FLASH kinda feel. I would forget to toggle it off, turn Combat jumping on, etc. THe SoD bind activates SUPERSPEED and then turns it off. Perfect... except for my trouble with reaction times.
I'm flexible with the options. I can accept a "Hit N to alternate between Speed on Demand with Superspeed/Combat Jumping and Speed on Demand with Sprint/Combat Jumping"
Thank you for your time.

This shouldn't be too hard - 1st you need to run the bind program twice (use different directories for each set) 1 for superspeed & 1 for sprint (or name your prestige power here).
Keep everything else the same except for the reset keys (you will need 2 (1 for each set to load))
If you look back through the posts, I think Gnarly had a more complete step-by-step description of this.
I hope this helps.

Would anyone be interested in having a discussion of how to change Gnarly's basic program to generate the keybinds needed when powexec_toggleon and powexec_toggleoff are available? Has anyone tried creating any binds like SoD on the test system using the new toggle commands?
I started to look at the basic source with the idea of changing them to use the new commands, but I quickly started to run into some design issues. For example:
<ul type="square"> Are all the generated files still needed?
Why have primary and secondary run powers? Using the toggle commands, if one has both primary and secondary, both would sometimes get turned on.
My simple "guesses" are that one doesn't need all the files and specifying only one run power would work better.
As I understand it, the large number of files are needed so that if multiple direction keys are pressed, the end result of their being released is still correct when all of the releases are executed and the various powexec_name commands get stacked. With the toggle commands, I believe all direction key releases would be trying to toggle on the same set of powers and toggle off the same set of powers, so the results of intermixing wouldn't cause such problems.
Even without the need to generate so many files, a program like Gnarly's is still useful since it lets one easily create different sets of files to cover all of the various requirements (for example: different keys, fly but not hover, ground but no air).

OK - I tested my SoD last night in I-3 (for the first time) & I didn't have any of the problems you are having.
Two things: 1)Are you using Gnarly's Speed on Demand? If not, that would be my suggestion. & 2) There is a known issue (that has never been solved), but if you "Zone" while in SoD movement (running or flying), the binds get messed up when you arrive in the new zone (you will need to reset using your reset key (I think the default is control-r)). My SoD keys are set to the arrows, so when I zone, I use the "w" key (set to std movement) to move forward to the next zone.
I hope this helps.

Just curious...anybody out there planning to update Gnarly's speed-on-demand (since the original author/maintainer has apparently given it up and moved on to other games) to take full advantage of the Kheldian form? It would be kind of cool to be able to choose keys for Kheldian human, nova, and dwarf forms, and to have the flight powers associated with the particular forms kick in on demand. (Though this becomes less of an issue if the Lightbringer's human and nova form flight powers have the same names...do they?)
SOD might also need to be updated to take full advantage of the new toggleon/toggleoff commands, too...

I've been wanting to dive in and look at Gnarly's SoD source code, since he provides it (or did) on his web page. If its still available, I should be able to go in and make modifications.
I've been wanting to update it to take advantage of ToggleOn and ToggleOff, definitely. In theory, using these two new commands will eliminate issues of drawing weapons and such. You'll no longer need to use Unqueue to turn off sprint and such as he does now in those cases. Also you would no longer have to engage Hover to disengage Fly, and other mutually-exclusive workarounds. All in all, it should make the sum total of bind files smaller by a good margin.
You really wouldn't need to do anything to it deal with Kheldian travels powers. Nova form only has one travel power, and it's inherent, no on/off needed. Peacebringers have versions of flight and hover. The only thing to do is to turn on and off SoD when you switch forms. The only enhancement to the interface would be to allow the input of your Flight powername and Hover powername if different from those.

I have updated Gnarly's 3.0 to fix one or two minor bugs that could result in the bind files being created incorrectly and to add the ability to chose the name of your flight/hover powers for e.g. Kheldians.
Unfortunately I don't have the full version of Liberty Basic so I can't produce a compiled version.
In the mean time if anyone wants the .bas file I'd be happy to send it to them, you need at least the Liberty Basic trial version installed to be able to run it though.
I would love to take a look at the code with a view to updating it to use the new toggleon/toggleoff functionality, that part of the code is pretty messy though and I'm having a hard time following what Gnarly did. I don't suppose anyone knows how to get in touch with him do they?

Woot!
I have spoken with Gnarly!
He's busy with Real Life[tm] at the moment, and actually away on a business trip, but he has offered to take a look at his binds once he gets back and maybe update them to use the the new toggleon toggleoff functionality - this will simplify them a lot, and should make them more robust too.
More info to come in early February, watch this space!

Nice, now I don't have to worry about my fly bind being worthless (can't figure out for the life of me how to execute one command on press and one on letting go). Instead I just have to wait till like february or so.

If not... it might be a nice idea to set one up.

I've tried both Wasabi Joe's and Gnarly's -- similar, and excellent. Truly game-changing, as skeptical friends now agree.
Gnarly's is easier to start, as it has its own little setup program. But it isn't available to download anywhere I see now.
I have a zipped version of the file -- is there anyone with web space willing to host it on a simple page?

Could someone please PM me a link to the Speed on Demand stuff so I can give it a whirl? I'm still using the original binds which have the chorded movement issue (i.e. can't press 2 keys at once).
Jim.Cavanaugh.net seems to be dead...

My understanding:
Q activates it
up is forward
down is backwards
left is left
right is right
Q turns it back off and the keys return to normal for run/sprint...
Right now all arrow keys activate it and so does q. I cannot walk or sprint anymore...
I think I am missing a call that makes Q put everything back to normal when I want it off. The only change has been the directional keys.
/bind_load_file <dir>\powers.txt
Here are the text files:
powers.txt
q "powexec_name sprint$$powexec_name hover$$bind_load_file c:\macro\flight1.txt"
flight1.txt
q "powexec_name sprint$$powexec_name hover$$bind_load_file c:\macro\flight2.txt"
up "+forward$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name fly"
left "+left$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name fly"
right "+right$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name fly"
down "+backward$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name fly"
space "+up$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name fly"
lshift+space "+down$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name fly"
flight2.txt
q "powexec_name sprint$$powexec_name hover$$bind_load_file c:\macro\flight1.txt"
up "+forward"
left "+left"
right "+right"
downa "+backward"
space "+up"
Also, can anyone think of a way to code a diagonal movement? When I press up and left I move diagonally, very nice around corners, etc. However if I try it flying with this keybind, I stop.
I'd love any suggestions.
I'd also like to be able to move diagonally. (forward and left at the same time)

Any updates on this? I have some limited experience with writing binds, but I have no idea what these toggleon/off commands are... never seen them before. Can someone point me to a place to read up on them? Gnarly's binds work pretty well for me, but if these toggle commands could fix the minor problems I experience, I would like to give them a try.
Also, I have a copy of the SOD bas file, and have modified it to generate Combat Flight/Energy Flight binds for Peacebringers. I'm not sure the toggleon/toggleoff commands will work too well with SoD - with my limited (very) use of them (toggling on CJ/TI/Inv & Uny), using the press/release method, sometimes some of the toggles would not activate & I had to switch to the single down press to make sure that they activated everytime.
It seemed to me that toggleon/toggleoff are slower commands.
Also, if anyone needs the SoD zip file, I have the 2.7 version, which to me was more stable (but with less options) than the 3.0 version. Send a PM to me with your e-mail address & I will forward it as soon as I get home.

Hey guys,
I have a question for you. I have modified the SoD files by Gnarly for use with my Peacebringer, and I use two other bind files to switch back and forth between human and Bright Nova forms. They seem to function just fine, but when I switch from nova into human, I get this error:

I appreciate the post, but those files and command calls are not compatible with Gnarly's SoD system. I am not having any problems with SoD or anything fucntional. I just get that one script error when shifting out of nova and into human form. It doesn't affect my movement or power activation at all, just spams that window with error messages.
I have seen that error before when $$ separators were misplaced or when there were extra lines of space in a bind file, but neither applies to my files as far as I can tell.
Also, if you are unfamiliar with Gnarly's files, they are quite complex and go far beyond the two files that I posted. Those just handle my shapeshifting, deactivating SoD when going to squid form, and reactivating when I return to human.
Thanks again!

I did actually find it on a fan website last week when I was searching around for some info, but I can't remember which one.
See my post from above - I have SoD v 2.7 - send me a PM with your e-mail address & I will send it to you. This version is/was the most stable (in my opinion), but does not have all the different configurations (such as having fly without hover).
Just LMK if you need it - I will send it out when I get home from work.

I have the latest ones, and a set modified for PeaceBringers. Get me in game @Junction Boy, and I can IM them to you. You'll need a BASIC compiler (I suggest Liberty Basic cause it's free). Gnarly's web site went offline literally hours after I downloaded the SoD set that I have, so I consider myself quite lucky.

Interesting but I say use the KIS rule; Keep It Simple. Set up a bind to change between hover and fly and use the mouse for direction, space bar for going up. Set a bind to sprint and one to turn off hover/fly bind. Now you can fly anywhere you want even diagonal!

Yeah, I did that at one time. From a certain point of view, it's not simple. Instead of one key press to leave hover, fly somewhere, and return to hover, I have to press three keys. One is more simple than three. It's all a matter of preference. No one is trying to ram these binds down your throat. They are just here for you to try... and I do recommend that you try them. They made fly go from my least favorite travel power to the one I enjoy the most. (I too can fly diagonally.) My controller never touches the ground now... it's great. SoD isn't for everyone, and it's not perfect, but it is quite awesome.
BTW, I fixed that error message I was getting earlier. I somehow deleted a carraige return in my file, and didn't notice because notepad is not set to wrap text. It was a bind that never get's overwritten, so I never noticed an error in my controls.

Oh man I hope I didn't give you that impression.
I appreciate your work on these, I really do.
It's just that I am not that good at the logic end of binding (history major) and if something screws up it takes me forever to get it fixed.
I have tried to of the binds in ths thread (the first two mentioned) I couldn't get the first to work at all. After three hours of attempting to find my error, I gave up and tried a simpler one. That one worked but the controls were sluggish and it would occasionally just stop working. I am working my way through this post to find one that I like, but it is a loooooong thread.

The original binds in this thread are way out of date - they always locked up if you hit 2 movement keys at the same time - not fun.
Wasabi Joe & Gnarley (over months) came up with full versions (different sets of binds that is) that eliminated most of the problems - and the few that are still there are quickly fixed with lcontrol+r (to reset the binds).
I highly recommend these binds - I have been using them for all my characters - even the non-flyers (just so I can have sprint on whenever I move & not have to worry about turning it off ;)) - since July.

It wasn't you that game me that impression, it was that other guy...
In any case, don't throw too much credit at my feet. I didn't participate in the creation of SoD. I wrote my own back when this thread first started, but they don't work nearly as well as Gnarly's do, so I use his instead. The only thing I have done is mod hisbinds for my peacebringer (I took a few compuer science courses in college, so I can navigate some code if I have to). Definitely give SoD 2.7 or 3.0 a try. And listen to MrEman... he seems to have been around this thread a few times.

I got in contact with Junction Boy recently, and he sent me a copy of his modified Peacebringer version. I compiled it and uploaded it for anyone who wants it.
Peacebringer SoD (http://www.cc4c.shivermetimbersproductions.com/personal/kheldsod.zip)
I haven't tested it, as I don't have a Peacebringer yet, but I looked through the files and everything looked like it would work. After running the .exe, you'll need to move the human.txt, nova.txt and dwarf.txt files into the directory where you created the binds. Also, the files are set to the default directory (c:/coh) so if you install them anywhere else, you'll need to change them manually.
I'm not sure, but I believe this program will install the normal SoD binds for non-Kheldians, as well. If not, I have the original copy of SoD 3.0, which I can upload if needed.
Big thanks to Junction Boy!

my key choices for Gnarly's Speed On Demand (SOD) and some related keys:
forward, left, back, right = e,s,d,f so I can keep my hands on the typing home keys
autorun, follow = ctrl+e, ctrl+f never bind these to regular keys, that leads to me accidentally running into dangeerous gangs.
reset = space I use reset a lot. I use it as my break out of autrun. Using it a lot keeps SOD from breaking so much.
up, down = r,v
fly, run = t, b
switch modes (normal / SOD) = w
target_enemy_near = a
target_enemy_next = ctrl+a
target_friend_next= shift+a and I bind a mouse button to Shift+a
powexec_abort = z

Lots of pages and Me(being a /bind noob) and sooo confused.
I am just trying to make/find a bind to do the following things:
When I turn on a "Fly" binds I get the ability to move with fly and hover when I dont move(essentially the up,down,w,s,and strafe keys) I found a couple of the files people taled about in this thread (Wasabi, etc.) but they are MUCH more complex than I was looking for, however whenever i experiment and try and make my own i get either locked, or no results.
Are there any simple binds or files to do this?

I've been using SoD since issue1 and find it very helpful on all my toons. I just think powexec_toggleon could help the few quirks it has.

Just in case anyone was wondering, the SoD seems to work fine with the suppression changes made (at least the way I use them).

I haven't read all of the reviews on this so I dont know if anyone else asked this.
Now I don't really get binds and I dont know how to set this myself or I might not understand completely so it might already do this. How would you set this so that it works with (I dont know if it has a special name) the up,down, left, and right keys?

Keep in mind that the left & right (arrow) keys are not actually movement keys, the are turn keys (as in left turn & right turn)
When using Gnarly's SoD it will ask you to which key do you want to use for forward - type in "up" without the quotes
backward - "down" without the quotes
I personally left the left & right movement keys to be "a" & "d" the default keys - (these are used for straifing), but you can change them to which ever ones you want them to be.

The Best Hover/Fly /bind EVER!!!
<WHAT>
Action: With Sprint enabled press q
Result: Char will enter Hover mode and disable Sprint
Action: Press+Hold ANY direction key
Result: Char will enter Fly mode in the direction chosen
Action: Release previous key
Result: Char will return to Hover mode
Action: Press q
Result: Char will drop to ground with Sprint enabled
<WHY>
PRO
Single key to start/end Flight
Minimal Endurance usage
Quick recovery from Flight ‘Knockdowns’
Autorun+Space allows for better viewing of terrain
(pans slightly down)
CON
Combinations of direction keys toggles Hover/Fly during Flight
Very slight initial Flight delay due to load/un-load of .txt files
As a Blaster I would make many small adjustments to position
in order to use Cone Attacks. Toggling between Hover/Flight
was tedious and often I would not fight in Hover mode
(losing Defensive Buff) to avoid it. Furthermore, I would lose
Endurance by not remembering (during intense fights) to
Toggle. With this structure, and Reduce Endurance
enhancements, I’m able to quickly change position with
minimal Endurance loss.
<HOW>
1.Copy/Paste Code into three different .txt files

can someone help me with this?
i have no idea how to set this up. instead of using q to activate hover, i want to use 9, so what do i change??
also i'm confused about the <dir> part. so if my .txt files are located in C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\binds, in the .txt do i put <C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\binds> or just C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\binds??
and also, i NEVER have sprint on, so i dont want to have sprint on to be able to use this bind, and i dont want sprint to activate when i turn off hover.
i know these may seem like retarded questions, but i AM retarded (at least with the computer). if someone can tell me exactly what to do, that'd be great.

The original post from this forum is not the speed on demand that actually works. See the above post by StaticDrifter for the link to the Gnarly's Speed on Demand binds.
The program sets up a series of binds that does a number of things:
If you are on the ground - when you are standing still sprint is not activated, but as soon as you hit a movement key sprint is automatically activated. Releasing the movement key turns off sprint.
If you are in the air not moving you are hover mode, but as soon as you hit a movement key you automatically switch to fly mode. Releasing the movement key switches you back to hover mode.
The movement keys can be bound to what ever keys you currently use. My personal layout for my flyers is:
rcontrol: puts me into fly mode
rshift: put me into ground mode
up (the up arrow): moves forward
down (the down arrow): moves backward
a: moves left
b: moves right
left (the left arrow): turns left
right (the right arrow): turns right
f: follow mode
r: auto run or auto fly
numpad0: downward movement (for fly)
spacebar: upward movement (for fly) & jump (for ground mode)
control+M: for mode switching
control+r: to reset the binds (if the binds get messed up or you find yourself in continuous movement, pressing control+r sets you straight)
Here is a copy of the link from the above post. If for some reason it doesn't work, you can send me a PM with your e-mail address - I have the 2.7 version of the binds I can send you (it doesn't have as many options as the 3.0 version, but they work fine).

Also, you should create a directory on your computer for all of your binds. I use c:\cohbinds - when using the bind_load command, it doesn't like long directory names like the default c:\program files\city of heroes\binds (it will come back with an error message saying (I think) too many arguments.
I hope this helps.

I have a question. Does SoD 3.0 still have the annoying bug where if you are moving while flying and you immediately hit a power button, you drop from the sky?
This was the problem that I had with this bind originally and it got to the point that whenever I moved and fire (in normal combat) I would drop from the sky two or three times. It's annoying because not only do you take fall damage, but you also fall into the midst of your enemies and into melee.
Thanks.

I don't think the problem is with long file names per se. I believe that the problem with the aforementioned default directory path is actually the spaces in c:\program files\city of heroes\binds. I have not tested this but if you put quotes around the path and filename, it should work fine. eg. bind_load "c:\program files\city of heroes\binds\mybinds.txt"

All right, this bind works GREAT for me! I love it! I have just one question - how come I can't get it into a macro button?
The macro format is: /macro <name> <command>
So I input: /macro Flover "/bind_load_file c:\coh_bind\powers.txt"
And when I click the macro button, it tells me /bind_load_file is not a valid command. But when I manually enter the command as I typed it for the macro button, it works just fine. What have I done wrong?

A little advice for all the /bind wary : the underscore (_) in the commands can be removed, and it will work properly without it.
Example :
/bind v "powexec_name Rest"
and
/bind v "powexecname Rest"
are the same.
The point of this is that the /bind is limited to 256 characters, so for long binds it's good to skip the characters you can ;)

Forgive me as I try and bring this post to life again.
I used the keybinds from the initial post here and it works great save for the fact that I added turnlefts and right instead of left or right as I use the arrow keys for travel. Besides that it works great.
My problem lies in turning it off. WHen I press q it turns it on but when I press q again it turn to plain hover. I then press q again and it turns off, sometimes, but if I move within 5 seconds it makes my fly or hover again.
What is going on? I will post my codes here....
<font class="small">Code:<hr /><pre>
Powers.txt
q "powexec_name hover$$bind_load_file c:\flight1.txt"
FLIGHT1.txt
q "powexec_name hover$$bind_load_file c:\flight2.txt"
up "+forward$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name Fly"
left "+turnleft$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name Fly"
right "+turnright$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name Fly"
down "+backward$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name Fly"
space "+up$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name Fly"
lshift+space "+down$$powexec_name hover$$powexec_name Fly"
FLIGHT2.txt
q "powexec_name hover$$bind_load_file c:\flight1.txt"
up "+forward"
left "+turnleft"
right "+turnright"
down "+backward"
space "+up" </pre><hr />
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Sorry to be late reponding to the post on the previous page.
- I have two versions, zipped, of the original binds from this thread, Gnarly's and Wasabi Joe's.
Both are too long for posting, but I'm happy to pass them on to anyone who wants to host them again for the community.
They're similar. Gnarly's is easier to set up -- it comes as a small .exe program that asks which powers are in use and builds the bind. Both are pretty stable, with the same occasional minor bug (on zoning, sometimes the binds need to be "reset"; both provide a key for this, so it's extremely easy).
- I can't emphasize how much better this makes hover/fly. Literally dozens of my friends and SG mates have said "I can toggle between hover/fly well on my own, no need for the bind," but when they try it, their eyes open and they never, ever go back. It's how flying was meant to be.

Heh, like Gnarly's? You could say that... I used his Basic source code to create the first version of the Speed on Demand module to CityBinder. Yes it supports automatic toggling between hover and fly, and even more.
No, in reality it is more of an updated version of Gnarly's. I've added a few extra things to it such as the ability to set your camera distance when flying and when not, Kheldian support, world detail level while flying. DrLetharga has contributed the Advanced teleport bind, which I have attempted to assimilate into CityBinder. CityBinder also supports the creation of simple and cyclebinds, Khaiba/Sandolphin's Mastermind binds, a per pet selection bind, an inspiration popper bind with accurate names for all inspirations except the Awaken line, and the AFK based Typing message for all methods of chatting.
Oh yeah, it also can save settings in a profile per character, so you can go back and easily just change one or two things about your characters binds without having to redo the entire thing.
It's also GPL software with the source code available, so if people want to make changes to it, they can, and if they want me to add it to the main CityBinder project I pretty much will.

It sounds great. It's the Hover/Fly I want above all -- I'm not a Teleporter and don't need binds for it (though I'll wave as you flash past me) -- but I'm sure I'll find some of the other features useful.
Will give it a go this weekend. Thanks!

Heh, you're quite welcome. I made it because I got tired of re-entering settings over and over again when using Gnarly's program. I wanted the ability to just tweak a setting here or there, but I also realized that if it could handle more than just that one bind, it may be capable of being a one stop shop for making perfectly customized bindfiles. For about a week after the headstart I scoured as much (though not enough) of the forums as I could to find useful binds to add to it.

You are probably using a long path such as c:\program files\city of heroes\binds\lalala.txt
The bind_load command doesn't like file names with spaces - you should create a bind directory directly on your C: drive - I use cohbinds as the directory.
Also, when you said you copied & pasted, I assume you are using the binds from the original post - don't do that
Either use Gnarly's Speed on Demand program you can download it at Nilt's City of Heroes Resources (http://savagemod.com/SoD.html) or use Monorail's CityBinder (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=152056).

I'm personally using the new CityBinder for my MM binds. I haven't been using Gnarly's SoD binds for a while, having developed my own that work well now, but it looks as if CityBinder's integrated the functionality of Gnarly's SoD into it.
I'll probably keep the SoD stuff up somewhere even if CityBinder takes over but my site's currently been having bandwidth issues. I may move to an alternate host but the one I'm on is free so ...
Edit: I was shocked to see this thread still kicking. It's SO old now!

As a simple example, if you were to create a bind in game, on the chat line you would type - /bind rctrl "powexectoggleon fly$$powexectoggleon hover" - this will make the right control key toggle between hover & fly
If you want to creat a series of binds, it's easier to create a text bind file & load them all at once.
To create a text file of the same bind open up notepad and type: rctrl "powexectoggleon fly$$powexectoggleon hover"
You'll notice that you do not need to put the /bind in there. Save the file to a simple directory (I use c:\cohbinds) and name it something like fly.txt
In CoH at the chat line type: bind_load_file c:\cohbinds\fly.txt
Look in the guide section of the forum for the Guide to Binds that gives much of the basic information regarding binds & txt files

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I can't get CityBinder to do automatic toggling between hover and fly.
I'm finding that, using CityBinder, I have to use the "F" key to toggle between hover/fly. In fly mode, when I release a movement key, I do NOT automatically drop into hover. I'm using the files CityBinder generated - I haven't edited them at all. What could be wrong? (I know I've loaded the binds generated by your program because I see binds I didn't have previously, unrelated to fly).
I'm probably just doing something wrong, but at least for me, CityBinder doesn't seem to work like Gnarly's did. But the CityBinder program itself is just so wonderfully handy that I'm really hoping I'm just missing something stoopid on my part (for which I apologize in advance).
I note that the bind generated for fly mode reads like this:
F "powexecname Sprint$$powexecname Fly$$powexecname Hover"
Given that the fly-mode key does not load a new bind file, how can it possibly trigger a Gnarly-style auto-hover/fly switch? Having examined RESET.TXT, I can't see how it could work. Once again, I'm sure the error is mine, but I'm stumped.
CityBinder looks very cool (Thanks for putting it together) - what am I doing wrong?

F "powexecname Sprint$$powexecname Fly$$powexecname Hover"
Given that the fly-mode key does not load a new bind file, how can it possibly trigger a Gnarly-style auto-hover/fly switch? Having examined RESET.TXT, I can't see how it could work. Once again, I'm sure the error is mine, but I'm stumped.
CityBinder looks very cool (Thanks for putting it together) - what am I doing wrong?
[/ QUOTE ]
It seems to me that you are not enabling the Speed on Demand system after loading your reset.txt. If you left it at the default key, hit Ctrl+M and then try to enter Fly mode. If that doesn't work, you may want to reset all your keybinds in the options window and reload the reset.txt, then enter SoD mode. The good news is that, as a general rule, you will never need to reenter normal mode, except on rare circumstances like wanting to completely reset your binds.

Okay; I did say that I was probably doing something stupid (altho I hadn't really expected that it would turn out that I was being quite that pathetically brainless). Yes, you are entirely right - I hadn't hit Ctrl-M. In my defense(*), the system I had used previously (which I attributed to Gnarly - perhaps in error), there was no "mode" key - you just hit your flight key and took off, even the very first time. But that system did have headaches with it getting confused between hover & fly. (It wasn't, by the way, Gnarly's latest - it was a very early version using only two flight-related bind files. I understand the most recent version doesn't have this problem).
Actually I saw the Ctrl-M bind in the reset.txt file, but when I saw the word "Run" mode, I presumed that it was to get OUT of fly mode and quit looking. Granted, if I had done just that wee bit more research of looking at the r(gazillion zeroes follow).txt file, I would have been able to figure out myself and wouldn't have needed to clog this forum with my "hey, look everyone, I'm a twit" post.

* - Okay, there is no defense; I was simply being a bonehead. (Fitting, in a way, since I'm currently playing a Necro MM). Thanks very much for the help.

CityBinder is INCREDIBLE! I've tried, and I can't make it glitch. With CityBinder(CB), I can hold down two movement keys at once, without causing a problem (so that you can fly, say, up and sideways). I can also use the essential spacebar-while-flying trick (hold down W+SPACE, so that you can look down at the ground while flying level). I can trigger powers while flying without a problem. It even turns Sprint on and off automatically, so you are seamlessly dropped into Sprint while moving, and it shuts off by itself when you stop. Granted, Sprint doesn't eat much endurance, but every bit saved helps, and CB does it without you ever even having to think about it. I also like the automatic camera-distance option. (Frankly, it sounded like a bit of a gimmick until I tried it, but having done that, I'm sold).
I haven't tried Gnarly's latest, so I can't say which is better. But CB works wonderfully, and it fixes every SoD-related problem I've ever heard of.
For anyone who hasn't tried it yet, check out CityBinder - It Rocks!

I'm very glad you like CB. :) It took me a while to get it all working like it currently does, and I've got a rather large list of things to add in the future. Real Life(tm), however, has been interfering with my ability to work on CB in the past week. Thankfully I think all that is behind me and I'll have enough spare time to restart development. I will be adding a check for Speed on Demand stuff that needs to be used to get it working right in the future, as the tooltips and configuration window aren't actually all that helpful for people not already familiar with Gnarly's latest SoD program.
CityBinder can glitch... it's just so rare that it can be discounted. If you have the powexec_unqueue option checked, likely you'll almost never see the glitches that happen. Otherwise a simple Ctrl+R while pressing no other keys will unglitch you.
One of the things that most amazed me back in the Pre-Issue-1 days was the fluidity of Gnarly's binds, and the End saving that could be had by using them. Most people don't realize how much Sprint can chew through Endurance, but it is noticeable when using a bind system like Gnarly's or my updated version, especially early in the lives of fliers.
It's also important to realize that I lay claim only to a couple upgrades to Gnarly's system, not the system itself. Specifically, the work I did creating the camera distance settings and the support for Kheldian travel powers were added solely by me, and I had thought/created them entirely on my own (though the camera distance trick was used in the advanced TP binds brought to my attention later). The addition of the World Detail level settings was not my idea, nor was the advanced teleport bind (still gotta get a tp-er leveled up so I can personally try that bind out... maybe my Mastermind has recall friend...). The coming features for Superspeeders and Superjumpers will likely be based on the Gnarly binds, especially considering how much the will have to interface with them. I have my scrapper copied to the Training Room and that character has both SS and SJ on the Training Room(though not superspeed on Infinity server, one travel power is enough for me generally speaking. :) ).
On an unrelated and completely off-topic note... I'm now a Certified Microsoft Windows XP and Office 2003 Preinstallation Specialist. :)

Now that we've used it more, my son and I are both experiencing one specific glitch with CB.
In the heat of battle, and only then, we suddenly find ourselves strafing left and must Ctrl-R to fix it. Because it happens only during battle, I suspect rapid keypresses to be the source of the glitch. The odd thing is, it is ALWAYS strafe Left. Is there any chance of a left-side-only typo/bug/whatever in the bind files? Having not looked at the source code, I have no feel for how likely this is in your particular application. But having been a developer for - well, let's just say I predate microcomputers entirely - I know how easy it is to generate cut&paste errors. (You copy the "right side" code and paste to make the "left side", and miss making some specific change). On the other hand, perhaps it is just a coincidence.
In case this helps...
We both have powexec_unqueue checked. We are using two different profiles on two different ATs, and our binds are similar only for movement and other standard keys. (I have a MM and he doesn't). I have fly and he is using SS. (On the characters we've been playing extensively since we picked up CB).
I still say CB is fantastic, and I look forward to future updates. I recommand anyone who happens to be reading this to give it a try. After all, it takes only a few minutes to download and set up, and if you happen to not like it, you can just go back to whatever you used before. Given how heroically difficult the bind systems makes it to do this sort of thing at all, I am really impressed with what yourself, gnarly, et al, have achieved.
BTW, congratulations on the certifications!

Since I posted my prior message about my Strafe Left glitch (above), it occured to me that I had LSHIFT+A bound to 'Attack my target'; of course, Strafe Left is "A". When I changed my 'Attack' bind to another key, leaving LSHIFT+A NOP, the problem went away entirely. Since then, I've played for hours without a single glitch. It isn't that I would accidentally forget to press shift; there is more to it than that, because when the glitch happened, I wouldn't just step sideways, I would get stuck on strafe left until I reset via Ctrl-R. Still, the fix was simple.
Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving.

First to all of you have that have made this thread I salute you as this is by far the best bind I have come across.
now on to my problem, my wife wants the hover/fly bind but she only uses the mouse for movement is there a way to get citybinder to work with that setup?

I've been amazingly busy with my business and had little time to work on CityBinder... what free time I have is spent playing CoH. :) Soon enough I will start working on CityBinder again, but until then... no known date...
However, to help with your question, can you give me an idea of exactly how you want the binds to work? I.E., What should happen when your wife presses the left mouse button, right mouse button, middle, etc.?
I am unsure if there is a way to rebind the forward movement command that occurs on pressing both the left and right mouse button. I have determined how to bind the left and right mouse button combo: mousechord. So if you wanted to move forward with SoD using the left and right mouse buttons, you would change the Forward Key text box so it says mousechord.
If you want the right mouse button to be used for forward movement, simply type rbutton into the forward key box in the Speed On Demand section. Likewise, use mbutton for the middle mouse button and lbutton for the left button. You can also use button4, and possibly higher button numbers for additional mouse buttons. If you want mouselook to be activated when moving, simply put a check mark in the Auto-Mouselook while moving option box.

to be honest I am not exactly sure how she plays using only the mouse for movement since I am on old time WADS user, but from the suggestions you put up allready I might be able to get somthing to work for her. So once again thank you very much.

Just trying this out on the test server before I put anything on live, I keep getting this same message: Forgive me if it's already been answered, but it's a lot of pages to cover.
"Unable to read in keybind file: g:\cityofvillains\cityofheroes\powers.txt"
That is what I get each time I enter my keybinds. But this is where I have it loaded to. Am I doing something wrong?

Try putting the binds in a new file, g:\coh\cov\powers.txt. Sometimes if the file name is too long it won't load.

boy this is a long thread, does anyone know if i can just toggle between fly and hover with one button?
this is what i'm trying:
Button4 "powexec_name fly $$ powexec_name hover"
if im already using fly, it switches to hover. if im using hover, it just turns it off and i fall. if im on the ground, it turns hover on
i've used the same thing with costume changes and they alternate just fine, but i guess powers are a little different

Haven't tried this, but should work -
c:/cohbinds/fly -
<font class="small">Code:<hr /><pre>bind button4 powexecname Fly$$bindloadfile c:/cohbinds/hover </pre><hr />
c:/cohbinds/hover -
<font class="small">Code:<hr /><pre>bind button4 powexecname Hover$$bindloadfile c:/cohbinds/down</pre><hr />
c:/cohbinds/down -
<font class="small">Code:<hr /><pre>bind button4 powexectoggleoff Hover$$bindloadfile c:/cohbinds/fly </pre><hr />
Again, this is comletely theoretical, no idea if it'll work.

Your bind will work, but you need to remove the spaces before and after the $$.
Button4 "powexec_name fly$$powexec_name hover"
This will activeate Hover first if neither Hover nor Fly are currently on, but will toggle between them otherwise. Reverse their positions in the bind if you want it to activate Fly first.

These will need to be separate files, and you will only need to /bindloadfile one of them.

well i have main bind files for my characters already, that's why i was wondering if each character was limited to just 1 bindfile at a time
and i took the spaces out like the guy above you said, and it works fine now! :) just 1 extra line in my character's normal bind file

You can't ever have those spaces between the "$$" dividers and what goes before them and after them. The game code reads those spaces, and interprets you as trying to activate a power called "hover ", for instance. There is no power called "hover " in the game, just one called "hover".

Huh. Could be the numbers at the end of the costume slot designations are read as number rather than text, so the spaces are ignored. In any case, it doesn't work for any power names, so it's probably a bad habit that's best to avoid, to prevent yourself trouble when not doing costume changes.
